In the News: CB1 Rejects Karaoke Bar’s Liquor License

New Balance at Concepts••• The “footwear, street, and skate store” known as “Concepts is looking to expand outside the confines of its Beantown origins and set to open a new retail shop in New York City. The store will be based in Tribeca and feature some of the retailer’s strong curation of product, inclusive of both apparel and footwear. In addition, you can expect them to kick things off with a New Balance release as well as the Concepts clothing line.” Anyone know where? —Hypebeast

••• At its full meeting, Community Board 1 voted to deny the liquor license for Gunbae, the karaoke lounge and barbecue restaurant at 67 Murray: “Even with second and third chances, the board agreed, the owners of the restaurant, Gunbae, failed to give them what they asked for—detailed soundproofing plans for the karaoke rooms planned for the basement, below the restaurant.” The State Liquor Authority could decide to approve it anyway. —Tribeca Trib

••• “A Daily News investigation found 34 serious accidents at WTC sites that were not reported to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. These incidents left workers with life-altering injuries such as spinal fractures, broken limbs and busted hips. And for three years in a row, injury rates at the WTC buildings exceeded state and national averages.”

••• There’s a meeting about the Seaport on Nov. 10. “The forum is being sponsored by Save Our Seaport, the City Club of New York and the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance. Speakers will include New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, New York State Senator Daniel Squadron, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and City Councilmember Margaret Chin.” There’s no indication that Howard Hughes Corporation will have shared its plans before then. —Downtown Post NYC

  2. There’s some sort of footwear store involving New Balance being put together on Hudson just above Canal this week. Might Concepts’s PR folks be (slightly) geographically challenged?
