In the News: Garage Attendant Held Up at Gunpoint

••• I’ve walked up to the Concepts store on Hudson twice now, and it’s been closed both times. So maybe it’s only open for special launches? I called the Boston store, but the line was busy. Over it! Hypebeast has pix, including the lovely one above by Eddie Eng.

••• “Three robbers tied up a Tribeca parking garage attendant at gunpoint last week, before stealing three pricey cars from the lot, police said.” It was the garage at 24 Leonard. —DNAinfo

••• Gothamist has an article about how councilmember Margaret Chin “is drafting legislation requiring the NYC DOT to study how major truck routes ‘affect the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.’ Ultimately, she’d like to see big trucks banned from Canal Street, which has some of the most dangerous intersections in Manhattan. Although none of the recent pedestrian fatalities were caused by big truck drivers, the idea is that eliminating truck traffic would have a calming effect on Canal.” Playing with fire; which streets will trucks use if banned from Canal? Maybe consider tolls on the East River bridges instead….

••• West Village restaurant news part 1: “Galen Zamarra’s hyper-local micro-seasonal remake of Mas (la grillade) into Almanac will debut next week, on November 18. The restaurant’s name and idea come from the personal journals Zamarra has kept since he worked at Bouley back in the late 1990’s. The newly redone space, we’re promised, has a more farmhouse-y feel to it, a lounge, a concrete bar, and reclaimed wood-covered walls.” —Eater

••• West Village restaurant news part 2: The guys behind reliably delicious Piora talk about how the restaurant came to be and how the menu will be changing. Below: Now that’s a garnish. —Eater
