Los Americanos Is Closing

The agenda for last night’s meeting of the Community Board 1 Tribeca Committee included an application for liquor-license alteration so that Los Americanos, the pan-Latin restaurant at Church and Walker, could have live music. But while that was discussed—I’ll recap the music-related part in the forthcoming Unofficial Minutes—the big news came when owner Patrick Fahey said that Los Americanos would be “terminated” as of this weekend. (“It lost a lot of money.”) He said the concept and menu (and presumably the name) will change; the 35-seat space will be turned into a “neighborhood bistro” à la Walker’s. No word yet on the timeframe.

  1. Heres an idea for the new concept: cease being a huge rip-off

  2. That restaurant was TERRIBLE. Hoping for improvement with the next iteration.

  3. Yep, let’s hope that along with the new concept, name and menu there will be new management and new staff… Some of the food was good but service was consistently poor (very odd, slacker vibe in there…).

  4. Yes it was inconsistent at times, but I actually loved that place. It was fun and chill. I thought the staff was friendly and cool. It did have more of an EV vibe, it was in the wrong neighborhood. New place should take that into consideration.

  5. It was also ridiculously overpriced. $12 for a small portion of guacamole and fried plantain chips! That was at least tasty unlike some other overpriced options…

  6. I for one will miss the fish tacos. I didn’t find it overpriced and am surprised, it was a really good lunch option and we used to go for Happy Hour.

  7. Only place in NY you could buy coca tea! Shame, loved that place – wasn’t the laziness of the place part of the charm? I’ll take that over 90% of the restaurants that have opened in Tribeca in the last 5 years.

  8. I am going to miss the good vibes in the morning and the coffee — it was perfectly strong, hit the spot, and only $2 (and no La Columbe line).
