A New Bar on W. Broadway

Petite AbeilleBesides an excellent interview with Quentin Tarantino, New York magazine’s fall preview has the 411 on The Bennett, the new bar coming to the former Petite Abeille space at 134 W. Broadway (not online yet): “A 600-square-foot space courtesy of the team behind Dear Irving and Raines Law Room. [That’s the Yves Jadot Restaurant Group.] Drinks, designed [!?] by Meaghan Dorman, will be divided into Original House Creations and Audience Awards—cocktails that have been hits at the team’s other locations.” The magazine says it’ll open in September, although that seems ambitious given the state of the interior.

As I explained back in May, because the Yves Jadot Restaurant Group is also an owner of Petite Abeille, it won’t have to go before Community Board 1 for the Bennett’s liquor license—which may very well allow for a 4 a.m. closing. The license expires, however, at the end of September, giving CB1 the opportunity to review it. And given that the method of operation is clearly changing from a restaurant to a bar, it may decide it wants to.
