Seen & Heard: Tribeca’s Funkiest New Building

••• Despite some people’s obsession, the Spring Street Salt Shed isn’t the only funky building under construction around here. The framing for the façade of the single-family home at 187 Franklin gives a sense of what’s to come (renderings here and here).

Cosmopolitan HotelCosmopolitan Hotel west side••• The shelves are starting to empty out at the Food Emporium…. A friend overheard someone asking why there was no Häagen-Dazs ice cream, and the response was that the store hadn’t been paying its bills, so the ice cream company stopped delivering. Is this really its last week?

Food Emporium••• I had never noticed before that a two-level spiral staircase visible on the north side of 56 Leonard (sixth and seventh floors).

Flyers were posted at Laight and St. John’s Lane for “The Character,” shooting Thursday. Not sure what it is.
Flyers were posted at Franklin and Varick for “Ringside,” shooting Thursday. “Ringside” is how the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting allows the Netflix TV show “Daredevil” to masquerade itself. (IMDB: “A blind lawyer, with his other senses superhumanly enhanced, fights crime as a costumed superhero.”)
—By, “Boss” (mentioned a couple of days ago) is what the city allows Jennifer Lopez’s show “Shades of Blue” to call itself.

  1. What was filming in the Raccoon Lodge this morning?

    • Not sure what was today, but “Mr Robot” has shot there before. They all must be shooting there for an authentic NY dive bar before it closes down. :(
