Seen & Heard: The Dog Days of Summer

••• Handsome dog.

Shinola and menswear dog••• Someone recently asked whether Trinity Church might turn the lot at Canal and Varick—where those tent events are—into a park. Not likely, given the development it has planned for the entire Hudson Square area: This graphic is from the Hudson Square Connection’s 2014 annual report, and I’d wager the HSC’s emphasis on the “greening” its doing to the streets is one way to preemptively address concerns about open space.

Hudson Square development from Hudson Square Connection 2014 annual report••• Brookfield Place update: Bottega Veneta looks very close to opening (under the Winter Garden staircase), and the Kamakura Shirts signage says to expect it in November (across from Equinox).

Bottega VenetaKamakura Shirts••• The next Tribeca Meet & Greet, organized by the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, is Tuesday, Sept. 1 (6:30-9 p.m.), at Chambers Pottery (the subject of a recent Spotlight post). It’s free and open to everyone. From the release: “Come with ideas or just come to shake hands—let us know how we can work together as businesses, families or individuals. Also at this event, representatives from the office of the Manhattan Borough Presidents Office will be giving out information about an upcoming a Lower Manhattan Small Business Roundtable. They would very much appreciate your feedback.” Chambers Pottery is on the second floor of 153 Chambers.

••• I think the Patriot Saloon ran a version of this sign last time it “renovated,” but it bears repeating.

Patriot Saloon••• This makes me feel so much better about how much Adam and I spend on wine.

“Meanwhile, in January [2015], Trinity will kick off the search for a partner to help build a 430-foot-tall, 300,000-square-foot residential building a mile north, on a plot framed by Sixth Avenue and Canal, Grand and Varick streets. The property will include a 444-seat public school at its base.

“At least three more big residential towers, together totaling close to 1 million square feet, will follow in Hudson Square. Trinity laid the legal groundwork for their rise last year when the City Council approved a massive rezoning that will allow the church—Hudson Square’s largest landlord, with more than a dozen office buildings—to build residences for the first time.”

  2. That makes me feel better about our wine purchases as well! :)

  3. Bottega Veneta opened today.
