Seen & Heard: “American-Made” Emporium Opening in the Seaport

••• Looks like 304-306 Canal, the former home of Pearl Paint, is getting a rooftop addition.

304-306 Canal••• The annual Tunnel to Towers race is Sunday (Sept. 27), so expect some disruptions. They don’t seem to post the route or the street closures on their website.

••• Adam and I walked over to the Seaport yesterday. First stop: One of the restaurant spaces at the Beekman hotel—I think this is Keith McNally’s Augustine—appears to be coming along. Love that it faces a Dunkin Donuts.

The Beekman••• Then we walked Front Street. Dorlan’s Tavern is open, although it’s weirdly empty inside. It may have been open for a while—I don’t get to the Seaport as much as when my pug was more of a walker.

Dorlans Tavern••• In November, Northern Grade is opening a permanent marketplace further south at 203 Front Street, in the South Street Seaport. From its Facebook page: “a roving market for the best American-manufactured goods. At our markets you will find: clothing, footwear, gear, games, art, paper goods, grooming supplies, food, music + a few things you didn’t know you needed.” (The roving pop-ups had booths that vendors rented; presumably this is the same set-up.) The second image is of the interior. UPDATE: They’re saying it’ll be a proper store, not a collection of booths like the pop-ups have been.

Northern Grade South Street Seaport••• And I checked in on Pier 17…. You can click on it to see in greater detail that there’s not much visible progress.

Pier 17••• On the way home, we passed by El Luchador. Has anyone been? I really need to go. It looks fantastic.

  1. El Luchador is amazing.

  2. Yes, El Luchador is delish!

  3. Luchador is worth the trip. Real deal, authentic tacos and such. Friendly staff and great service too.

  4. Theirs are the only fish tacos I have ever liked. I don’t claim to know anything about Mexican food. I just like them. Other stuff is good too. Plus you get to be in all the tourist pictures. The record is five of them standing in the street at one time taking pictures of the place.

  5. El Luchador is FANTASTIC! I think I need to go there right now!

  6. I too love El Luchador. They have great tortilla chips! Great addition to FiDi and a creative use of a landmark historic building, which I believe used to be a stable.

  7. Fantastic was there last night
