Seen & Heard: Irving Farm Is Opening a Fulton Center Café

••• Irving Farm is opening a café in the Fulton Center.

Irving Farm at the Fulton Center••• You know the new drugstore at Broadway and Canal that first had Duane Reade signage and then Walgreens signage? While walking on Canal, I noticed signs that said “Duane Reade by Walgreens.” So I went in and asked whether the store is a Duane Reade or a Walgreen’s. “That’s the million-dollar question,” was the reply. “It’s Duane Reade prices in a Walgreens environment.” (So there is a difference?) Anyway, the folks working there have been super friendly, which could be because the store is new, but still, enjoy it while it lasts.

Duane Reade by Walgreens••• From E.: “Shooting for ‘The Affair’ on Hubert Street Monday, Sept. 28, at 4 a.m.”

••• “I was born a raised in Tribeca (1974 to 2000),” emailed Brian. “I was wondering if you have done or could do a ‘where are they now piece’ and or a ‘Reconnect with former neighbors’ piece. There were so many cool people who just seem to have vanished—no social media or search results for like six popular Tribecazens (lol). Any help would be great!” I’m not sure it’s of wide enough interest to warrant a post, but if you know how to reach any of these people, I’ll put you in touch with B.: “Cody Mantle (approximately 45 years old?), nephew of the baseball legend Mickey Mantle; Harrison Lance (approximately age 48); Miles Lali (sp?); Barnard (Barney) Earhard.”

••• I find it weird when businesses rent out their windows for other businesses’s advertising—the way Haus is doing to Alex and Ani. I suppose Haus wasn’t using the windows anyway, and revenue is always nice, but how hard can you party inside a room decorated with charm bracelets?

Alex and Ani ads on Haus••• The condo at 371 Broadway—but known as Franklin Place, where the entrance will be—seems to be taking a long time, no? Here it is from the northeast; can’t say I mind it terribly. The south side is all (or mainly) wall, so maybe there’s hope the brick insult next to it will be torn down one day.

  1. Walgreen’s has been on an acquisition spree for about two years, although it’s not clear if it’s an outright acquisition maneuver or some other sort of creative math situation. In addition to DR, in the past year they acquired (or whatever) UK retailer Boots. But they clearly haven’t sorted things out yet. I occ. go into the big Trumpy flagship store at 40 Wall Street to check their lines of European products. In the past year I’ve even seen them pick up exclusives and drop them in the space of a few months (for a while you could pick up full lines of Roger Gallet and La Roche-Posay products, for instance – no longer).
