In the News: Crane Accident Utility Work Completed

••• A rundown of new condos in Tribeca includes this on 49 Chambers: “Architect Woods Bagot is designing the condo building, which will have 81 homes ranging from one to four bedrooms. Building amenities include tween lounge, multipurpose lounge, catering kitchen, indoor pool, exercise room, virtual golf, yoga studio, screening room, sauna and steam room, and roof deck. Interiors by Gabellini Sheppard. Sales launch spring 2016.” I’m intrigued by this one; that’s a gorgeous building and the southern views over City Hall Park should be spectacular. —New York Observer

••• Crane collapse update: “A spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection said as of Tuesday afternoon, three buildings along the block that had their water turned off because of repairs, should now have water flowing again. Gas remained turned off at five buildings along Worth Street, but a spokesman for Con Edison said that gas would be available to the buildings by Wednesday morning [i.e., today].” —DNAinfo

••• “A taxi driver left his wallet in his unlocked cab while he went to a restroom. When he returned, he discovered that the wallet was gone. The cabbie lost his social security card, driver’s license, five bank cards and two store credit cards. One of the cards was subsequently used to pay for groceries and a taxi ride.” That last part must’ve been especially galling. Also in the Tribeca Trib‘s police blotter: A man’s locker at Equinox was broken into. I’d bet he was using one of those cheap Master combination locks, so I’ll say it again: Don’t use those! They’re easily pickable! (I know from experience.) Why do I bother? Around 33% of men at Asphalt Green don’t use locks at all.

••• “The Tribeca Film Festival is gearing up for its 15th year by embracing virtual reality worlds and installations in a big way. Twenty-three VR exhibits and interactive installations from leading creators and emerging artists will be presented at the Tribeca Festival Hub (50 Varick Street), with 16 of them making their world premieres. The 2016 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 13-24.” I also saw on Twitter that a “Snapchat story” by Kylie Jenner will be in the festival, although I haven’t heard back yet from a rep about whether that’s true and I have no idea what it might even mean. And the festival is introducing an award for “branded content” (i.e., advertising). —Indiewire

  1. Hard to believe the Tribeca Film Festival is 15 years old. It will always be tied to 9/11 as part of the neighborhood’s renewal.
