Seen & Heard: Rooftop Scaffolding Collapse

••• It turns out there was a valid reason to call 311 about 396 Broadway: The scaffolding on its roof collapsed on April 3—and as you can see from the second photo (both taken by a concerned neighbor), the skylight at 394 Broadway was certainly at risk. It was corrected, and then it collapsed again on April 8.

396 Bway-1 396 Bway-2••• Flyers were posted for two more shoots: On Warren for today for something called “Everyone Speaks Food” and on Chambers for Tuesday and Wednesday for “Elementary.”

••• Press release: “The New York Academy of Art at 111 Franklin Street has its Open Studios on this Friday night (April 15), from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is free and open to the public.” If you’ve never been to see the studios—there are more than 100—you should!

New York Academy of Arts TriBeCa Ball••• From the Tribeca Film Festival: “At the Tribeca Studios Backlot, one of the highlights of the Tribeca on Location Street Fair“—that’s what the Tribeca Family Festival is called now—”TFF will celebrate [Ghostbusters] with a special free fan screening of the original film on the big screen.” It’s April 23 at 3 p.m. at the Regal Battery Park. “There will be a special video greeting from the cast of the new film and an introduction and conversation with the producing team of the Ghostheads documentary. Activations include games like the Slime Lab, training with a ‘professional’ in a Proton Pack Training Session, ghost stories, and a guided tour and photo ops at FDNY Ladder 8—the original Ghostbusters headquarters. Admission is free and on a first-come, first-served basis. Lines at Regal Cinemas Battery Park begin 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. Following this screening, there will be a ‘Work in Progress’ special screening of Ghostheads.”

••• After months, possibly years, of wondering what this Apt. 5 store was that sells the umbrellas you see everywhere, I finally Googled it. It’s a Duane Reade brand.

  1. I used to wonder about the apt5 thing also until I asked my friend where she got her umbrella and she told me it was from DR. She didn’t even realize it said anything on it until I mentioned it.
