Back to the World Trade Center Mall

Sephora at Westfield World Trade CenterI took another turn around the Westfield World Trade Center mall yesterday to see if anything was new. There is now signage for the second of what are said to be three Starbucks (on the landing below the Vesey Street entrance) and Lady M Confections (the ground floor of 4 World Trade Center). My guess is that the third Starbucks will be in the massive PATH hall. In any event, the total number of shops and restaurants that I consider confirmed—meaning signage has been spotted—is now at 87. Westfield has said there will be 125.

There has been discussion lately as to how ready the mall will be for its opening on August 16. What I can tell you is that many of the stores’ doors are open, and quite a few are as far along as the Sephora photo above. I did get a shock when, as I peeked inside one entrance, a PATH/subway train rumbled by in the background.

Lately, as I walk around the city, I’ve been struck by how many of the shops and restaurants at the mall have sister outposts within walking distance. So along with this latest rundown of who’s confirmed, I’ve included the nearest other location. As of now, 74 of the 87 already have outposts in New York City, and 43 already have outposts below Houston Street.

  1. Still no word or signage on Apple then? Noticed it’s not in your list (unless I missed it).

    • Correct. If anyone sees Apple signage, let me know.

    • Today they had taken the black paper off one and a half of the second floor windows. I got a peek in one of the open doors this week and it looks like ceiling fixtures are done.

    • The Apple Store is a two level store in the Oculus. It’s located in the NorthWest part of the mall. The huge space covered in black. It’s going to be a big, beautiful store.

Also, the article says Eataly is in Union Square when it’s actually in Flatiron.

      • Of course Eataly is in the Flatiron. Thanks for that. As for Apple, even though the space it’s said to have taken is known at this point, I haven’t included it yet because there has been no signage.

        • Yeah it seems they’re waiting until the last minute. Once Apple Store Williamsburg opens I think we’ll see signage for Apple Store WTC. I give it the first week of August.

          • Just got invite for Williamsburg opening July 30 at 10 am, so we’ll soon know if Tom is right. :-) Yesterday they replaced some of the black paper.

  2. Wasn’t a Lego store once mentioned?

  3. The 150 broadway location of sephora is closing in august. I suspect this is timed with world trade center location opening soon.
The closure sticker is up on their doors at liberty & broadway
