  1. That block of Canal has been a graffiti-laden dump with vacant store fronts. It is on the precipice of actually being a block worthy of walking down (shake shack, duane reade, shoe store), and the Preservation Commission is willing to impede the progress. They should step back and actually think about what (if anything) they are preserving, before rejecting positive development.
