••• B. reports that the windows of the former New York Sports Club at Reade and Greenwich have been papered over, and hammering can be heard inside. Anyone know what’s moving in?
••• Tutto Il Giorno is now serving lunch/brunch on weekends, starting at noon. Last Sunday there was a magician, and there’s hope another will be engaged for this Sunday (but if it’s really important to you, call to make sure). Here’s the menu, followed by the kids’ brunch menu and—because it’s new, too—the kids’ dinner menu.
••• I was sitting inside Kaffe 1668 South this morning, annoyed by the glare of the newsstand ad across the street, when I remembered that NV had recently complained about it. The thing really is intrusive; let’s hope that CB1 recommends against another eyesore on that block.
••• Opening Dec. 10 at Art Projects International: Greenpoint: New Prints by Il Lee [which] features thirty-three limited-edition etching prints from Il Lee’s newest Greenpoint series shown together for the first time.”
••• Citigroup’s renovation of 388-390 Greenwich is happening in earnest. Renderings here and more info here.

no one will last in the former NY sports club. no one ever does around the city! Landlords killed the businesses with sky high rents!
Former NYSC has Asbestos removal signs on the door, I doubt a new tenant is moving in.
It is going to be some sort of day care/nursery school.
Is this something you know, or a logical guess? (As for the asbestos removal mentioned by Alan, the space has been empty for a long time—so why start the removal now if there isn’t a tenant? There’s nothing on the DOB site about ground-floor work anywhere in the building.)
I know. I’m in the bldg.
I used to be a member when it was there. Hearing about the asbestos makes me feel less guilty about the fact that I barely ever went!
I heard it was either going to be a madrassa or a mattress store. Not quite sure which, since the guy didn’t speak good American.
The Citi project has been really rough on the neighbors. They have bright fluorescent lights blazing 24 hours a day; they start working at 7 a.m. and frequently work past midnight with jackhammers and drills; and they blow air horns constantly. Did I mention that they often work six or seven days a week?
Giving a whole new twist to their old slogan “The City never sleeps.. Citibank!”
