Seen & Heard: Free Outdoor Concert Lineup

••• The Ever After kids’ clothing store on Greenwich opened yesterday. Full report in the next few days.

••• Reports of Kestè’s opening appear to have been premature: “Kestè does not appear to be fully open,” says K. “We stopped by for dinner and the door sign says ‘closed for private party,’ but the place is totally dark.”

••• WeWork’s colonization of New York continues with a new outpost at 205 Hudson (at Canal). UPDATE: Alias commented with a link to a Commercial Observer item that the lease is for the fifth, sixth, and seventh floors for just under 95,000 square feet.

••• The Battery Park City Authority released the lineup for its River & Blues concert series at 7 p.m. at Wagner Park. (The full lineup of summer activities and events is here [PDF].)

—July 6 / Los Lobos – Grammy-winning and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-nominated artists Los Lobos perform their culturally-rich fusion of rock, blues, soul and Mexican folk music.
—July 13 / Rebirth Brass Band – From the Big Easy to the Big Apple, Rebirth Brass Band show why they’re considered pillars of their native New Orleans music scene with their Grammy-winning, infectious, and groove-laden “heavy funk.”
—July 20 / Bettye LaVette – Regarded as one of the premier live vocalists performing today, Bettye LaVette brings her emotive soul and blues interpretations to Battery Park City. With her first record released at the age of 16, LaVette is an enduring icon of many musical styles. [Below: “Let Me Down Easy.”]
—July 27 / Vieux Farka Toure – Vieux Farka Toure delivers emotionally-charged songs and spectacular guitar work from his native Mali. With his unique and intricate fingerstyle playing, Farka Toure transports the beauty and culture of his homeland to New York City.

••• Opening April 20 at Cheryl Hazan: “Thomas Sayre’s gallery exhibition debut, Cynefi. The title Cynefin (pronounced ku-nev-in) references a primal, fierce attachment to a part of the land. The artist himself adheres to this idea, as an observer who has gradually become part of local landscapes throughout the south and beyond. Sayre’s show consists of his ‘Barn,’ ‘Thicket,’ and ‘Earthcasting’ works; each component is grounded in the notion of Cynefin, evoking the relationship between human-made objects and the land from which they have sprung.”

••• Brooklyn Robot Foundry is opening a fourth outpost, on Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn’s South Slope.

  1. Why do you cherry pick restaurants and places opening in fidi and soho on the future openings list? I mean you had CUT, Augustine, Canal Street Market, and Fowler and Wells on the future openings list and right now you have Smorgasburg in Soho and Trader Joe’s in Soho on the list. However, you mention or have mentioned places like Keste Wall Street, Blue Ribbon Federal Grill, Van Leeuwen, Fuku, Chick-Fil-A, etc in stories but did not list them under future openings.

    • Factor #1 is proximity to Tribeca, which explains Smorgasburg, Canal Street Market, Cut, Augustine, Fowler & Wells. (You may not consider the last two very close to Tribeca, but they’re not far form where I live.) That’s why I don’t include the Seaport and most of FiDi.

Factor #2 is whether the place is of high and wide interest, which is why Trader Joe’s is there.

Factor #3 is whether I remember to update the list. It’s not the most well-tended part of this garden.

  2. Hey Erik,
I called WeWork about the space on Hudson and they don’t know anything about it! Looking forward to hearing any more updates on that as you come across them.
    Thanks!
    Lisa

  3. Good luck to EverAfter. It looks absolutely lovely. Pity my kid has grown up. I wish them luck.
