Getting Tribeca Included in the Holland Tunnel Traffic Study

From Community Board 1…. My comments are indented on the line below. NOTE: I’ll be out of town for the Licensing & Permits Committee (May 10) and the Landmarks Preservation Committee (May 11), so if you’re planning on attending—and/or you’ve ever wanted to be a TC stringer—please get in touch at tribecacitizen@gmail.com

Please note that this is a preliminary list. Be sure to check the agenda page on our website for any changes to agendas prior to the meeting dates. (ID is required to enter building.)

The organization has been wanting to beautify that area.

Great, give tourists another reason not to keep moving….

2) Overcrowding Task Force – Report
3) Trinity School Working Group – Report
4) Battery Park City Summer Events – Report

I assume that’s supposed to be “events,” and not one major event. But since this is in the Youth & Education Committee, and not the Waterfront, Parks & Resiliency Committee, I won’t be attending. (By the way, the gay pride events are happening at Pier 26 again this year. Pride weekend is June 23-25.)

5/10 Licensing & Permits Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Manhattan Borough President’s Office, 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor – Northside

Battery Park City area
1) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk cafe permits and recurring street closure permits:
—225 Liberty Street, application for renewal of liquor license for The Little Kitchen Restaurant Group LLC d/b/a Little Muenster

Tribeca area
1) 125 Chambers Street, application for unenclosed sidewalk café for Pret a Manger – Resolution

I’m generally a fan of sidewalk cafés, but that’s a very busy stretch.

2) 221 West Broadway, application for alteration of liquor license for North of Houston LLC d/b/a White Street – Resolution

This has been on the agenda before. It’s the former White Street restaurant. Alteration of liquor license would likely mean the owners are bringing in someone else.

3) 95 West Broadway, application for liquor license for Tribeca Hotel LLC – Resolution

Hasn’t the Cosmopolitan Hotel been before the committee a hundred times?

4) 79 Walker Street, application for liquor license for 79 Walker Street Restaurant LLC – Resolution

Discussed here.

5) 100 Lafayette Street, application for liquor license for LLC to be formed – Resolution (tentative)

That’s likely the former Santos Party House space—a huge venue….

6) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk cafe permits and recurring street closure permits:
—135 West Broadway, renewal of restaurant liquor license for 135 West B Food & Drink LLC, d/b/a Tiny’s and the Bar Upstairs
—2 Avenue of the Americas, renewal of unenclosed sidewalk café for Tribeca Grand Hotel. d/b/a The Roxy

Seaport/Civic Center area
1) 203 Front Street, application for liquor license for Superspace 2 LLC – Resolution

The Lure Group (Ambrose Beer & Lobster, Clinton Hall, etc.) is apparently opening something (or moving something) to where Northern Grade was.

2) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk cafe permits and recurring street closure permits:
—70 South Street, application for renewal of a restaurant liquor license for Maiden Rest LLC d/b/a Industry Kitchen
—213 Front Street, application for renewal of a restaurant liquor license for JMFF LLC d/b/a Dorlan’s Tavern
—21-23 Peck Slip, application for renewal of a restaurant liquor license for IDG Seaport Corp. d/b/a Acqua Restaurant
—150 William Street, application for renewal of a deli/grocery wine, beer & cider license for 150 Market Inc.
—24 Peck Slip, application for renewal of an unenclosed sidewalk café for Slammers Inc. d/b/a Suteishi Japanese Restaurant

Financial District area

3) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk cafe permits and recurring street closure permits:
—150 William Street, application for renewal of a restaurant wine, beer & cider license for 150 Market Inc.
—170 John Street, application for renewal of a liquor license for 170 John Street NYC Corp d/b/a Trading Post
—37 Broadway, application for renewal of a liquor license for Keith Restaurant Inc. d/b/a china Chalet Restaurant

5/11 Landmarks & Preservation Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) 415 Broadway, application to legalize historic iron-gate removal – Resolution

Must be this one (above).

2) 312-322 Canal Street, application for new nine story building – Resolution

That would presumably be this design:

Location: Manhattan Borough President’s Office, 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor – Southside
1) Warren Street Dog Run – Discussion and possible resolution (Parks Dept. invited)

This item has popped up (and been postponed) several times. Not sure what the issue is.

5/17 Executive Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) Agenda to be determined

5/18 Quality of Life & Service Delivery Committee – 6:00 PM
Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) Venting for commercial establishments – Discussion with representatives of NYC Departments of Buildings, Environmental Protection and Health and Mental Hygiene
2) Urban Umbrella – Presentation by Ben Krall, Co-Founder
3) Shooting near Battery Park – Discussion
4) Funding for the arts – Discussion
5) Equal participation and input for CB1 with regard to Holland Tunnel traffic congestion south of Canal Street as it relates to the Hudson Square/West Village Transportation Study – Resolution

GOOD! (Community Board 2, north of Canal, got the Department of Transportation to fund a traffic study for the Holland Tunnel, but Tribeca wasn’t included.)

6) Restoration and preservation of curb-side alternate side street parking on the north and south sides of Hubert Street, between Hudson and Collister Streets –Resolution

I’d wager this has to do with the Department of Transportation’s desire to create diagonal parking there (but isn’t Citigroup’s construction going to make any parking impossible for years?).

5/23 CB 1 Monthly Meeting – 6:00 PM
Downtown Boathouse, Hudson River Park at Pier 26

All documents relating to the above agenda items are on file at the Community Board 1 office and are available for viewing by the public upon written request to man01@cb.nyc.gov. At all meetings, additional items may be raised as “New Business.”

  1. Does anyone know what happened last month with Khe-Yo’s application for sidewalk seating?

  2. From the NY Times:

    Manhattan

    FOR LEASE

    $108.98/SQ. FT.

    $564,000 approximate annual rent

221 West Broadway (between White and Franklin Streets)

    Manhattan

A 10-year lease is available, starting in June, for a 5,175-square-foot recently renovated restaurant space, which had been home to White Street Restaurant, in this 1918 six-story mixed-use loft building in the TriBeCa East Historic District. The ground-floor space, with 13-and-a-half-foot ceilings, can seat up to 215 people, and has a liquor license. Its 5,000-square-foot usable lower level has a prep kitchen, office space and a private dining area. Its frontage totals 90 feet on White and West Broadway.

    Owner: Nur Ashki Jerrahi Community

    Broker: Steven Rappaport, Sinvin

  3. Why is it so difficult for the Cosmopolitan to get a liquor license? I seem to recall the board ran the Duane Street Hotel around too and it is a quiet comfortable space for visitors.
