Church Publick Will Become a New Orleans–Themed Restaurant

As we were beginning to suspect, when Church Publick reopens on July 19 after a renovation, it’ll be a restaurant with a New Orleans/Louisiana theme. But this is more than a menu change. There will also be a new name (1803, after the year of the Louisiana Purchase), a redesigned space (including a lower level previously used for private events), a raw bar with oyster shucker, and occasional live music. Proprietor Tal Lavi told me that Church Publick had turned into more of a bar, rather than the gastropub it was intended to be; one of his business partners, Jacob Rabinowitz, has a fondness for New Orleans, and they see a need for this type of restaurant in the city.
