In the News: New FiDi Nightclub

••• The auction of Edward Albee’s art collection takes place on September 26, and Sotheby’s says it “could bring up to $12 million.” Looking through it online, I found myself wishing (a) I had a radically different art budget, and (b) it had been the subject of a real exhibition (though you can see it at Sotheby’s September 20-25). ••• Eater‘s fall roundup lists Tetsu’s opening as “fall,” which is non-specific enough to cause concern. And then it says “word has it that it will actually open this year.” The restaurant was training staff members back in June—so what happens to them? Are they just on hold? (“I am a big fan of Chef Masa,” asked Jack the other day. “Can someone explain to me why it has taken almost 6 years to open this restaurant?” I think they ran into a lot of trouble with the build-out, but at this point, the issues would seem to be operational.)

••• “An owner of The Surf Lodge—Montauk’s longtime party spot with a legion of loyal fans—is opening a Manhattan outpost called The Mailroom (110 Wall Street), with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy as tonight’s DJ.” I don’t recall the ownership being discussed at all at the CB1 hearing about it. (Also, it’s hosting concerts.) The representatives made the Mailroom sound like it was primarily for WeWork and WeLive members, but this sounds like it something else entirely. —Eater
