Seen & Heard: Citi Stripes

••• Help the victims of Hurricane Irma this Saturday at Brookfield Place: “North Cove Sailing will offer free sailing for those who donate to the Sail for a Cause Crowd-funding Page. From 1-5 p.m. guests ages seven and up will have the chance to take a free sail around the Hudson River with North Cove Sailing.”

••• I hadn’t realized that Citigroup’s renovated/combined headquarters would have those three stripes on the southern facade. You can see them in the rendering, although they’re downplayed there.

••• From Notify NYC: “A flight of two Navy F/A-18 will fly over the Hudson River, north to the Tappan Zee Bridge, then fly south and near the Verrazano Bridge tomorrow, 9/28, at approximately 11 a.m. The aircraft will fly between 2,500-3,000 feet.”

••• Opening September 29 at Sapar Contemporary: “Bruno Miguel: Seduction and Reason, our first solo presentation devoted to this emerging artist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His practice involves the ritualistic collection of quotidian objects, from Portuguese porcelain tableware (Companhia das Índias), crystal, napkins, and textiles to soda bottles, glasses, books, and toys.  This approach is his own cannibalistic gesture and nod to the anthropophagic narratives of Brazil.  He incorporates these ‘objects’ as so-called ‘witnesses’ of a lived history, stimulating in their dialogues and displacements the organic development of his series.”

••• Press release: “The Downtown Alliance has commissioned street artist and ambassador to the United Nations High Commission of Refugees Chinòn Maria to paint ‘One World, Our Children,’ a 200-foot-long temporary outdoor mural that will celebrate unity and the collective strength of working together. The mural, which was begun on September 25, will take four weeks to paint and the public can watch the artist in action Monday through Saturday, 1-6pm. When complete, ‘One World, Our Children’ will cover the 12-foot-tall back wall of Site 5 in Albany Plaza on the World Trade Center campus. The piece will feature nine portraits that show our common heritage by tracing the human migration from Africa to every corner of the world.”

••• The 1st Precinct Community Council meeting is tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. at the precinct house.

  2. Had a sneak peak of the Bruno Miguel show at Sapar Contemporary as they were finishing the installation last night. Excellent original work. Highly recommend it.
