Seen & Heard: Big New Eye Care Office

••• You know the big, empty retail space at the southeast corner of W. Broadway and Worth? A Department of Buildings permit on the Worth side says it’s going to be a dance studio. But now I have on good authority that Weill Cornell is opening an ophthalmological eye care center there. It’s possible that the space is being divided, but I don’t think there’s currently more than one door.

••• Tickets to Open House New York events on October 14 and 15 are available as of 11 a.m. today. If I don’t get into the Municipal Building cupola, I’m going to bite someone. (Wei got in last year; that’s his photo below.) Also on offer: the Gerken Building penthouse.

••• Opening October 7 at Lubov: If nothing lasts forever, will you be my nothing?, paintings by Linnea Vedder. “Linnea Vedder’s recent paintings depict pregnancy, engaging the longstanding analogy between birth and creative genesis [….] There’s a dark femme energy to the paintings—bright and drippy pinks, rich purples. Solid brushstrokes form the outlines of a pregnant woman’s body as if to forcibly delimit her from an environment that might otherwise merge with or absorb her. […] As much as they express a sense of awe at the regenerative capacity of life, these paintings brim with the ghost energy of Pompeii, where Vedder spent time while she was seven months pregnant.

••• Filming Monday in the Greenwich/Laight area: “Shoes commercial.”

••• And today around W. Broadway and Warren: “U.A.P.P.,” which OLV says stands for “Untitled After Party Project” and the city lists under TV shows rather than films. Perhaps it’s this Netflix film starring Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, and Blair Underwood?

••• I keep meaning to try the Jamaican food truck that parks on Greenwich, across from Citi—especially if “sorrel drinks” show up as a special again.

••• Pen Parentis’s next literary salon is October 10: The theme is “Modern Family with authors Ami Sands Brodoff, Lori Jakiela, and Sheila Sweeny Higginson. Readings, signings, and discussion about their very contemporary families.” More info.

  1. A little warning that a picture might be NSFW would have been good!!

  2. Regardless of the content, my supervisor would be upset that I was looking at non work-related material while I was being paid to work.

    • Luckily, my supervisor likes the Tribeca neighborhood updates I provide him, and this site has been very helpful with that.

  3. Re: OHNY- I tried yesterday at exactly 11 am to score tickets to the Municipal Building cupola and the Gerkin loft, with no success! Now I know why- all your readers were competing with me!
