WeWork Is Co-Launching a Tribeca School

We had learned that WeWork and a school were each taking up residence at 53 Beach, the building where Montessori of Manhattan used to be, but they’re actually combining on a project. Chabad of Tribeca/Soho, which has the My Little Preschool on Reade, is opening The Tribe School, its first elementary-level program. Moreover, the school will also be “the first iteration of WeWork’s educational endeavor; a network of conscious entrepreneurial schools that will be launching around the world,” as per the announcement. (WeWork is also opening offices in the building, to my knowledge.) And the school is being designed by the world-famous Bjarke Ingels Group; there are two renderings at the bottom of this post.

Here’s the announcement from admissions director Jordana Fruchter:

In September 2017, Chabad of Tribeca, in collaboration with WeWork, launched a pilot elementary school program for children in grades K-5, in Chabad of Tribeca’s current facility. This collaboration was born from a desire to sync the energy, thoughtfulness and intention of the Chabad of Tribeca & My Little School community with an innovative, hands-on entrepreneurial curriculum and a dynamic learning partnership with WeWork.

The Tribe School will be the elementary school division of Chabad of Tribeca, and will be the first iteration of WeWork’s educational endeavor; a network of conscious entrepreneurial schools that will be launching around the world. It is with great excitement that we announce this collaboration and open our doors as the first co-educational Jewish elementary school in downtown Manhattan.

Our collective mission is to unleash every child’s superpowers by creating a learning environment that delves deeply into cultivating the whole child. Our robust integrated academic curriculum is fused with a focus on Jewish values, ethics and practices and Hebrew language. With a unique focus on conscious entrepreneurship through a partnership with Linden Farm—managed by Stone Barns—and WeWork, children at The Tribe School will learn about business, in a world where business means helping people and growing yourself in the process. Our school is committed to developing children’s spirits as much as their minds so that they may live incredibly joyous, meaningful lives wherein they understand their passions and how they can use their talents to benefit others.

We X TRIBE is forging a new direction in education; one that will propel children to become mindful citizens who know who they are, understand their gifts, and approach life with wonder, joy, humility and a profound desire to share.

In September 2018, our school will move into a beautiful new facility at 53 Beach Street. Designed by world-renowned architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), and thoughtfully constructed, we have attached renderings of the facility below, and encourage you to take a look at our new concept school. Great focus has been put on creating a physical space that will act as the third teacher in promoting community, love and wonder.

We invite you to join us in learning more about The Tribe School at our information sessions taking place on 10/25, 11/16 & 11/29 from 6:30 – 8:00pm at WeWork HQ (115 West 18th Street).
