Seen & Heard: Any Sign of These Three Eccentrics?

••• I haven’t seen these three eccentric men in a long time: the guy who walked around with a cat on his head, the guy who dresses in brightly colored suits and hats, and the guy with a microphone and speaker. Anyone have a sighting lately? “I saw Mr. Microphone in Chelsea last month,” reports Anonymous. And “I’ve been seeing the guy in brightly colored suits and hats somewhat recently, around the southern blocks of Church,” comments J Parnell.

••• The State Liquor Authority 500-foot hearing for Town Stages (“held when the Authority is presented with an application for an ‘on-premises’ liquor license in a municipality of 20,000 or more people where there are already three or more ‘on-premises’ liquor licenses within 500 feet of the premises to which an application is being sought”) has been moved to January 4, rather than December 28.

••• A fair point. I was thinking the same thing when I saw the shelves of house-brand sodas.

••• Tribeca artist Rob Mango is the subject of a new documentary by filmmaker Guillaume LeBlanc, who spent a year in residence at the studio. Watch it here; the password is mango.

••• Speaking of films: If you love good movies, you really need to start paying attention to what’s playing at the Roxy Cinema: Tonight is Waltz with Bashir, one of the most extraordinary films I’ve ever seen; also this week, Faces Places (which involves JR, the artist who did the mural of Ellis Island orphans overlooking 100 Franklin) and Dunkirk.

••• From the Battery Conservancy: “Join us for free bird walks, led by Gabriel Willow, NYC Audubon guide. Explore the diverse wintering birds that find food and habitat on The Battery’s waterfront, such as ducks, geese, loons, grebes, and gulls. We might even spot a seal! 8-9 a.m. on January 9 and 16. Sign up for the next walk here.” Photo of a female cardinal courtesy Gail Karlsson.

last month on Broadway and Barclays deep in conversation

  4. The Dylan’s Candy Bar at WF is just not sitting right. More like two billionaires joining forces. Boycott brave people of TriBeCa.
Just say no! This is a grand Jeff idea? Pathetic.

  5. OK, am I the only one who thinks “old school pimp” when I see the brightly colored suits and hats guy? Hubby and I have built a whole narrative around him, assuming that he lives around here and paid cash years ago for his apartment.

  6. Did the Town Stages SLA hearing happen or get postponed?
