Seen & Heard: When There Was a Wheat Field in Battery Park City

••• From the “best crossing guard in the city,” Angela Diniz (and not Denise, as her name was misheard): “Thank everyone for your responses. My name is Angela Diniz and I have been a New York City School Crossing Guard since March, 2016. I’m so honored to provide service to the community and safe crossing practices.”

••• From Tribeca CSA, which is celebrating its tenth season: “As a member, you buy a ‘share’ of vegetables and then receive 20 weeks of veggie bounty from the black dirt of Goshen, N.Y., from June to Oct. Members pay for an entire season upfront which allows the farmer to buy seeds and allocate funds for the growing season. The Vegetables are harvested the Tuesday it is delivered to Washington Market Park. Every share sold helps the family run farm. Sign up and farm details on our website.”

••• The other day, someone posted on Reddit Fred Conrad’s wonderful 1977 image of sunbathers on the Battery Park City beach. Then a commenter added links to Agnes Denes’s 1982 “Wheatfield: A Confrontation,” when she planted two acres of wheat in the landfill. Both are worth clicking through.

••• “An employee outside the entrance on Spring Street last week told me ‘mid-May’ when I asked him about the opening date,” commented Soholla Back.

••• The storefront at 140 W. Broadway is being used as a fake campaign headquarters for a shoot of the TV show “Ray Donovan.” Thanks to J. for the photo.

••• The next Pen Parentis salon is May 8: “Songwriters Fran Pado, Jennifer Bernard Merkowitz, Liz Queler, and Kala Pier [with] performances, signings, and discussion about life-work balance.” RSVP.

••• Opening May 2 at Soho Photo: Nine photographers’ takes on Cuba. The photo below is by F. Emmanuel Bastien.
