July 8, 2018 Restaurant/Bar News
The revised Community Board 1 agendas for July include a new item for the Licensing Committee to discuss:
71 Worth Street, application for wine, beer and cider license for Wine and Beer 71 Worth LLC
71 Worth is the long-vacant storefront that was once RBC Coffee, and the space has been half-built-out for a while now, as you can see below. We don’t know anything else about the application, including who the operator is of what the proposed hours are. (When I walked by Friday, nothing was posted at the site about the application. UPDATE: Still nothing as of today.) It seems to me that CB1 should to refuse to discuss any liquor license until a certain amount of information is available: The members do themselves a disservice if they enter a meeting with absolutely no knowledge about what they’ll be discussing; moreover, people who live on that block have no idea whether they should be concerned about the establishment.
The smart money says that it’s related to Atera at 77 Worth. The restaurant used to have a subterranean bar and had once been rumored to be considering a wine bar. (Note that this application does not include hard liquor.) I’ve reached out to Jodi Richard, who owns Atera, but I have yet to hear back.
The meeting is this Wednesday, July 11, at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building. (Bring ID to get in.)
