Valentine No. 64

For the eighth summer, I’ll be spotlighting little aspects of life here that I love. To see the previous Valentines, click the Valentine tag at the end of the post.

This Valentine has taken on special resonance after news came out that an alleged thief escaped the custody of the 1st Precinct while in handcuffs. Anyway, these particular cuffs have been attached to the loading dock on the Leonard Street side of 155 Franklin since at least 2011. Sorry to spoil the mystery, but the conventional wisdom has been that they were once used as a bike lock. I prefer to think of them as Taylor Swift’s—after all, she does own a big chunk of the building, and they certainly lend new meaning to the lyrics of “Blank Space”….

So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game.
