Seen & Heard: Remembering Salvatore the Barber

••• Sad news from C. about Salvatore Barber Salon in the Conrad hotel building: “Thought you should know that Salvatore passed away on Saturday. The shop remains open, run by his children. I learned about the shop years ago when you wrote about it and have been going ever since. Sal was wonderful and an excellent barber.”

••• When did Maison Kayser give up on serving dinner?

••• You might want to avoid what appears to be a sinkhole on Church, outside the James Perse store. It’s deeper than this photo makes it look.

••• The Public Art Fund sent out a photo from B. Wurtz’s “Kitchen Trees” exhibit, opening August 7 at City Hall Park. It’s the first glimpse we’ve seen of what to expect.

••• “Law & Order: SVU” is back in the usual spot today.

••• Another store closed in the World Trade Center mall: Turnbull & Asser on the balcony level leading to 4 World Trade Center.

  1. So sad to hear of Sal’s passing. Had my hair cut by him for many years till recently. Such a wonderful man, great at his work but also a lovely person. From another era. My thoughts are with his family.

  2. Also sad to hear this. Been going to Sal and the other great folks there for the past 2 years. I knew he was ill, but didn’t realize it was quite so imminent. He cut my hair just a few months ago. Thoughts with the family.

  3. So sorry to hear about Sal. Wonderful man. I’ll miss his haircuts. Even more, I’ll miss his warm, engaging personality. Fortunately, his son, Frank, carries on, RIP, Sal.
