Seen & Heard: New York Academy of Art’s New Look

••• Overheard in Tribeca….

••• The new street-level windows at the New York Academy of Art on Franklin Street look great. It’s hard to tell, but the windows are sort of like vitrines. The second two images are of the building’s overall renovation. I’m not sure whether it’s all being done now.

••• Robert Janz has works on view at Lower East Side restaurant Benson’s tomorrow. I don’t think I’ve seen the flowers (?) in the wild. A bunch grouped together would look nice on your wall.

••• Yoga Shanti is offering free classes tomorrow.

••• A random bench showed up on the north side of Finn Square. It’s not bolted down, so maybe it was “gifted”?

••• The Downtown Alliance says that Dunkin’—”Dunkin’ Donuts new, next gen store” has opened at 90 West Street. I can’t abide Dunkin Donuts, so I won’t be checking it out firsthand. Seriously, how can anyone make donuts taste bad?) From PIX11: “It won’t just be the name that’s different. A Dunkin’ Donuts spokeswoman said the chain won’t make a decision on whether it will change its branding until late 2018. The new locations—in Times Square, the Theater District and the World Trade Center—will feature ‘modern atmosphere and new and innovative technologies and design elements,’ according to Dunkin’. One of the biggest changes is the addition of nitro cold brews to the menu, served on a tap system.” UPDATE: “I was in Boston for the long weekend and actually went to one of these ‘next gen’ Dunkin Donuts (we were in a rush!),” says Ken. “Decor is similar to the whitewashed aesthetic of Hudson Eats but cheaper looking. Nevertheless, it is an improvement. The tap system is cool, the drinks from it are good, and donuts are in a counter similar to a bakery which means you’re no longer a mile away from them. Not sure if this will be in all of them, but also a snack/bottled drinks area similar to Starbucks before you reach the cashier.”

  2. I remember helping to move NYAA into that building 1993. Lots of changes!

  3. The NY Academy of Art is one of the really great things about living in Tribeca – their shows and open studios are not-to-be-missed events. Can’t wait to see their newly renovated digs!
