In the News: Three Stars for Shoji

••• Shoji at 69 Leonard Street got a three-star rave from the New York Times, which deemed it among “the top tier of the city’s Japanese restaurants. On the basis of sushi alone, Shoji has few plausible rivals, and for sushi embedded within a longer, kaiseki-derived menu, it has no parallel.”

••• “Three State legislators who represent Downtown in Albany have been given high marks by the New York League of Conversation [sic] Voters, the only statewide environmental organization in New York that campaigns for clean water, clean air, renewable energy and open space through political action.” —Broadsheet

••• “New York City’s hundreds of miles of construction fencing and scaffolding are going to get a bit of a facelift. The city’s Department of Cultural Affairs recently launched a pilot program that calls on artists and non-profit organizations to submit proposals for artwork that will temporarily live on certain sidewalk sheds and construction fences throughout the city.” —Curbed

••• The New York Times indicates that the restaurant at 10 Corso Como is open, calling it “an upbeat, glittery affair with tabletops covered in Pollocky scrawls, comfortable leather banquettes and classically rendered Northern Italian food prepared by Jordan Frosolone and Danilo Galati.” The website has a reservations link, but there’s no availability ever. So I called and was told that, for now, reservations are only being taken a week in advance.
