Seen & Heard: The Warren Street Dig Spreads Eastward

••• Let’s smash things up!

••• The NYC Department of Design and Construction sent out a notice that next week construction barricades will set up along the south side of Warren between Church and Broadway. And with that, the Warren Street Reconstruction will be present on four blocks at once. The DDC used to say it would do a block and then move on, but that no longer seems to be the case (as you can see on Worth Street). A while ago, the community liaison did indicate that the block between West and Greenwich would be paved by year end.

••• Looks like Ward III has embraced the repeal of the cabaret law that required a license for dancing.

••• As part of a fall cleaning, I gathered up old prescription medicine; the nearest Duane Reade/Walgreens store with a Safe Medication Disposal box is at 40 Wall (below), and after that, Union Square South.

••• While visiting friends in Providence last weekend, we happened across an exhibit of photographer Danny Lyon’s work at Brown University’s David Winton Bell Museum, including many shots from his extraordinary 1960s series, The Destruction of Lower Manhattan, which focused on buildings marked for demolition. Below: The corner of West Street and Beach, where Citigroup’s headquarters now stands. It looks like something out of the Old West.

••• From BMCC: “We wanted to reach out and invite you and the Tribeca community to our new faculty research speaker series that will be occurring twice each semester. This is the chance for showcase to the community some of the more interesting research our faculty are doing etc. The next event is [tonight] November 8 at 7 p.m. at 199 Chambers in Richard Harris Terrace. It features Sociology Professor Elizabeth Wissinger, who will be talking about her research on Wearable Technologies. The event is free and open to the public.”

••• New York magazine’s section/blog The Strategist has a pop-up shop at 347 W. Broadway (Broome/Grand). “Participating Brands: Hairstory, Sundays, Cosrx, Beautycounter, Parachute, Ohii, Herbivore, TULA, East Fork, Cocokind, Freck, Incausa, Peet Rivko, Jaxon Lane, Rikumo, Negative Underwear, My Beauty Diary, LOLI Beauty, APTO, Kin Euphorics, Scentbird / Deck of Scarlet.”
