CBD Store to Open in Tribeca

This Friday, cannabis evangelist Steven Phan opens Come Back Daily, a store in Tribeca devoted to all things CBD. Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a chemical found in hemp that is increasingly popular as a treatment for many health-related issues.

“I’ve been a cannabis activist for as long as I can remember,” says Phan. ” My dream has always been to be in this space, whether plant-touching or not.” While working for his family’s seafood-import business, he was moonlighting for a friend’s CBD company. “I’ve seen with my own two eyes how it has been helping people. But there’s still a lot of skepticism, and I want to bridge the gap between counterculture and mainstream.” One thing he noticed as he live-chatted with prospective customers was their desire to shop in person—to ask questions, to try things, and so on. He planned on leaving his job to strike out on his own, setting up a table in someone else’s shop, but that fell through. Then a friend who owns retail space on Broadway offered him the empty storefront at 381 Broadway, where the Caden event facility recently was.

Phan’s goal for Come Back Daily is to be what he calls a CBD hub (and perhaps a cannabis hub, if/when the law changes). Instead of the usual dispensary model, where products are behind a counter, he’ll have a “discovery bar” with samples, along with a retail wall stocked with testers, and a lounge area that’s “a place to sit down and enjoy some CBD.” Phan also plans on hosting yoga, massage, and guided meditation classes, along with educational sessions with doctors and other experts. Ultimately, he wants it to be a community space, where people—whether they love CBD or are new to it—will hang out. “When you buy something, we’ll ask if it’s for here or to go,” he says.
