Fasano’s First U.S. Hotel Will Be in Soho

You read it here first: The Brazilian hotel company Fasano, famous for its flagship properties in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, is taking over the NoMo SoHo hotel at 9 Crosby (which opened as the Mondrian), according to a prospectus that B. found at the Salon M in Tribeca. (As good a place as any to find investors….) It’s the first U.S. property for Fasano, after a Miami Beach project was canceled, and only the second outside of Brazil.

This is exciting news not just for people visiting New York City—the Fasano in São Paulo is one of my favorite hotels anywhere in the world—but also for residents, since the company is sure to create a worthwhile restaurant and bar and t make better use of the courtyard on Crosby. The prospectus, says B., indicated that the current nightclub (?) will remain, and that the Fasano Soho is expected to open in 2021 after a full renovation.
