MISSING HOUSING WORKS?
J. writes that folks looking to unload their old threads – or make other donations — can drop off 24/7 at the New York Rescue Mission, 90 Lafayette St. between White and Walker. The lobby desk will even issue a tax receipt at drop off. The non-profit will accept new and gently used men and women’s clothing, hygiene items and non-perishable food items. They cannot accept furniture, appliances or housewares.
The mission is also a super worthy cause overall. Founded in 1872 as a “The Helping Hand for men,” it now has 220 beds for homeless men and women as well as emergency food assistance, job readiness programs, a career and learning center and medical and social services. In their words: “As we provide meals, shelter, and services to the homeless and hungry we care for, we also address the deeper emotional and spiritual issues to help them transform their lives, and reconnect with the world.” Learn more here.

JENGA ON CANVAS
Brooklyn-based artist Zannah Noe did this interpretation of 56 Leonard St., designed by architects Herzog de Meuron, as part of her American Bones series. She explains: “It is a modern skyscraper that yields to the joys of electronic fabrication design techniques. Employing my own fabrication techniques, I’m interested in moving the image through different processes for different effects. Next in the series will be image transfer, Rauschenberg like, with transparent layers on canvas.” Find her work here.

  1. Thank you for reminding me of the NY Rescue Mission. They have been doing wonderful work for many years.

    • They accept food as well and are not as strict as some of the bigger food rescue organizations (e.g., boxes of leftover pizza, etc.).
