Smorgasbeca? Smorgoculus? Smorgiest? Belowsmorganal? Smorgafi?
Anyway, it’s coming. The pop-up that was is now the new Schmorgasburg WTC, opening Friday, April 12, at the Oculus Plaza and featuring 25 food stalls, including our own Duane Park Patisserie. The plan is to be open Fridays through (at least) October from 11:30a to 7p. (Though I feel like we kind of got ripped off with the weekday rotation.)
The Smorg’ dynasty started in Williamsburg in 2011 — spinning off from the Brooklyn Flea — and has now grown to have satellites in Prospect Park (Sundays), Los Angeles, Osaka (Japan) and Sao Paolo. The Winter Smorgasburg + Brooklyn Flea will have its final indoor market this weekend at 625 Atlantic across from the Barclay Center; the outdoor BK versions will open the weekend of April 6/7. The Brooklyn Flea has also moved this season from its (cool) Industry City location: it will now be at the Williamsburg Hotel on Wythe Avenue on Saturdays and at the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge on Sundays.

And since the garbage around here has started to make my head hurt, this from their press release: Smorgasburg has emerged as likely the largest and most progressive zero-waste event in America, diverting a million pounds of waste from landfill annually with its strict ban on glass, plastic, and cans; the market will continue to provide compostable cups at free water-filling stations and is working toward more innovative multi-use formats for utensils.
