Neighbor Report: Cynthia Rowley sets up corporate office on Jay

As S. and J. first reported, the fashion designer Cynthia Rowley has indeed taken over the space at 8 Jay – on the corner of Staple, for an office-slash-showroom. Great digs for them but as S. says, no chance to shop the merch: “That’s so sad :( but maybe they will have sample sales there?” Still, welcome to the whole CR crew from all of us.

Rowley recently sold her Morton Street townhouse that served as her corporate office for $14 million, according to the Journal. “Ms. Rowley had been using the property as a company headquarters, with a showroom for her fashion label and an events space… Ms. Rowley bought the property for almost $11 million in 2014, and relisted it for sale in April 2018 for $17.5 million, according to listings website StreetEasy. She lowered the price to $15.995 million last September. Property records show Ms. Rowley owns two other townhouses in the Village, a Perry Street property she bought for about $2.5 million in 2004 and an additional property on Bleecker Street that houses her store. A spokeswoman for the designer said she was relocating her showroom to a new company headquarters in Tribeca.”

V. added this: “Cynthia herself was there doing manual labor and setting up the other night, so I chatted with her. Couldn’t have been nicer. Looks like it’s a design/showroom/special pieces type of thing. I don’t think they will be manufacturing anything there though, except for special orders maybe? Nice addition to the neighborhood.”

  1. I interned for her manyyy years ago when the office was on Bleecker in the west village. She picks the best locations for her design offices! Happy to hear she chose our neighborhood this time.
