Seen & Heard: Pulitzer for Soho Rep playwright

PULITZER FOR SOHO REP PRODUCTION
Jackie Sibblies Drury, a Brooklyn-based playwright, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play “Fairview,” which premiered this past summer at Soho Rep (which is actually on Walker). (Drury’s other plays include “We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as South West Africa From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915” and “Social Creatures.”)

Another note on Soho Rep from recent(ish) news: when The Times made its list of the best American plays of this century (when did Ben Brantley and Jesse Green find the time for that?) the theater’s 2014 production of “An Octaroon” was number two, only after Angels in America; more recently two of its productions – “Fairview” and “Is God Is” — made Brantley and Green’s list of NY Times Best Theater of 2108. Longtime Tribeca resident Victoria Meakin is president of the board of directors.

STELLA HEADED TO READE
Stella, the carefully curated home goods store on Duane Park and longtime neighborhood retail staple, will be moving to 138 Reade – on the north side between Greenwich and Hudson just west of Marc Forgione — in mid-May.

GAMING FOR BIG KIDS
J. reports that Brooklyn Game Lab on Chambers is hosting free gaming for adults on Mondays through Thursdays from 7 to 10.

SMORGASBURG IS POPULAR!
Seen: Insane lines at the new Smorgasburg at the Oculus, which opened April 12. Maybe it was the Good Friday Effect? Either way, you couldn’t pay me to wait in a 40-person line, even for the Lobster Pound. Will try again this week.

NEW BRIDAL SHOP
P. and A. spotted the first signs of a new flagship store for a bridal shop called Flora Vere, opening this weekend at 18 Jay (no offense to Flora Vere, but we were all excited for a florist!). Their sales model seems to be a bit different, i.e., cheaper; plus you must make an appointment to see the dresses and right now every city has a waiting list.
