Seen & Heard: Mother’s Day events around the neighborhood

MOTHER’S DAY AT DUANE PARK
Duane Park will host its annual Mother’s Day morning on Sunday, May 12, from 10 to 12. Stop by before or after brunch to pot plants for or with mom, and catch some marimba music played by teachers from the Church Street School.

POP-UP SHOP FOR MOMS AND KIDS
Four designers are hosting a pop-up shop at 72 Warren from May 8 to 12. The hours are different every day, so here goes: Wednesday 1 to 7, Thursday 11 to 9, Friday and Saturday 11 to 7, Sunday 10 to 4. There will be Rhonda Cole white shirts, IamMoi shoes, Penelope’s Stories jewelry, and Baily and Ava princess costumes and crowns. On Sunday, May 12, between 11a and 3p, the shop will provide a crafts table for children to create their own special designs for Mother’s Day. And on Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 9, they will host a benefit (free to all) – with rose and a DJ — for the Grace Institute, which provides employment training for women. Email marina@iammoi.com for more info.

DANCE COMPANY IN RESIDENCE
The Flea Theater will host Elisa Monte Dance as part of a new anchor partnership with performances on May 9-12. The dance company will present the world premier of “And Then They Were,” and excerpt the new work “H.E.R” (The Flea offers this to itinerant artistic companies so they can leverage The Flea Theater’s in-house support system and further their artistic reach.) Tickets range from $12 to $27 and can be purchased online at www.TheFlea.org. There will also be a special Mother’s Day event on Sunday.

CREATIVE COOKING FOR KIDS
Brookfield will host a kids cooking event run by Creative Kitchen on the weekend of May 11 and 12. The event is free, though cooking classes come with a fee. Activities will include a scavenger hunt with goody bags, a stage with music and yoga for kids and families, activities from the Children’s Museum of Manhattan and kids from MasterChef Junior doing live demos.
