Seen & Heard: Oysters coming to Canal Street

OYSTERS ON CANAL
J. spotted the sign (and sent the pic) for the upcoming Canal Street Oysters — a new restaurant at 380 Canal (West Bway) from the owners of the well-regarded UES hotspots East Pole Fish Bar, The East Pole and Eastfield’s (detecting a pattern?). The brother owners — Tom and Anthony Martignetti — also have Pizza Beach on the UES and Orchard Street. In a quick call, they said they would be open in two months, and will have more info later in June. The aesthetic is different for each, but my guess for this newest outpost is the East Pole version… Read a bit more at Eater.

The perfect ship to come aboard this holiday week #fourthofjuly

DE JANEIRO MOVES TO BROADWAY
De Janeiro, the discount women’s clothing store, has opened a new outlet at 261 Broadway just north of Warren. The chain was opened in 1983 (!) and has eight city locations. It’s nice to see that storefront on Broadway activated. (I love that the prices are in the window.) This does restore some balance to that stretch of Broadway, where the Bolton’s store has been closed for almost a year.

JAMES ELLROY AT MYSTERIOUS BOOKSHOP
James Ellroy, the American crime writer whose most recent book – “The Storm” — came out this week, will be at the Mysterious Bookshop tomorrow – Wednesday – at 6:30p. The store will have that book as well as other rare titles and limited editions to be signed. You can preorder the book here to avoid lines at the shop.

  1. Was walking in Chinatown yesterday and noticed that Bark HQ has post it that spelled “Dogs Rule! #BarkHQ” on its office windows at 221 Canal St.
