NEW ANIMAL LOVER IN TOWN
Reade Street Animal Hospital has a new vet on staff – Dr. Abigail Sine. Abby grew up in Kentucky, got her undergrad at the University of Washington, rescued stranded harbor seals in the San Juan Islands, then moved to New Zealand where she earned her veterinary degree from Massey University. While in vet school she also helped to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife, worked as a rehabilitator during New Zealand’s worst oil spill to date, and conducted several research projects involving wildlife health and rehabilitation. Her professional interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, geriatric medicine and alternative/complementary therapies. She lives in Brooklyn with her two cats, Sparky and Calvin. (Though the kittens above – Duane and Reade — belong to the firefighters at Ladder X on Duane Street.) We have already earned some points with the doctor: “The people here are so loving towards their animals and take amazing care of them,” she said. “It’s inspiring and fun to see and to be a part of that.”

FOR FIVE AT ONE LIBERTY
Queens-roasted coffee spot For Five opened in the lobby of 1 Liberty Plaza (across from Zuccotti Park) on Thursday. Open Monday through Friday from 7a-6p. For Five Coffee was founded by two friends from Queens who roast their beans in Maspeth. Beans are sourced from high altitude areas near the equator. The company already has an outpost in One World Trade on the 64th Floor (photo above) and one is coming this winter to Brookfield. They also have a bunch more around the country.

  1. That piano and any players I’ve heard in the afternoons/early evenings has been such a dream.

  2. Dr Sine has been at Reade St Animal Hospital for a while now and has looked after my dog Frank. I can’t recommend her highly enough, she’s lovely, so caring
