Seen & Heard: Everyone is Swedish for one day

SCANDINAVIA COMES TO WAGNER
Seen: The annual Swedish Midsummer Festival on Friday was so packed they ran out of blooms for the flower crowns and the line for meatballs extended across the entire plaza at Wagner Park. Still, no one lost their enthusiasm for Swedish line dancing on what was a perfect evening downtown. (Thanks to N. for the reminder and the band pic below.)

NOTED — IN BLOOM
Noted Tribeca will reopen soon with Darling Moon Flower as part of the operation. The business will be run by Alice Kil. This from her website: “Alice Kil, founder of Darling Moon maintained her love for flowers after seven years of college and graduate school. While familiar with oriental floral art, she rediscovered her love for flowers by working at a local flower shop in New York City and becoming a wedding florist in 2015. This began a journey of studying different floral forms, backgrounds, and styles.”

SONIC YOUTH IN BATTERY PARK, 2008
Flashback, as seen in Rolling Stone: “It’s been close to a decade since Sonic Youth played their last concert in Brazil in the fall of 2011, and the group has been slowly releasing live recordings and outtakes from their archives ever since. The latest is a re-release of a concert they played just ahead of their final album, The Eternal. But even though Battery Park, NYC: July 4, 2008 previously came out on vinyl in 2009 as a perk to get people to preorder The Eternal, this version marks the first time it will be available on streaming services or available for purchase as its own release.” Of course, the location is not the only connection here. The band’s co-founder is longtime Tribeca resident and guitarist Lee Ranaldo.
