77 Greenwich tops out at Rector Street

77 Greenwich, the new residential tower designed by FXCollaborative (the new development at St. Vincent’s; 1 River Place in BK) with interiors by Deborah Berke Partners (lots of cool spots, but also 48 Bond), has officially topped out.

The building is 500 feet and 42 stories with a “pleated” glass curtain wall façade (which is beginning to take shape). The apartments start on the 15th floor; the base up till that point is cast stone. The development preserved the Robert & Anne Dickey House next door — a historic landmark at 67 Greenwich built in 1810 that is one of the last remaining Federal-style buildings in the city. (See Tom Miller’s post here, that I will eventually add to the TC site as well. The picture below of the bowed rear facade is by Alice Lum and comes from his site.) That will be part of the new elementary school (and more on that in an upcoming post). The entryway is dramatic — you can see the shape of it coming together below.

The school will take floors 2 through 9 and the Dickey House; floors 10 and 11 are mechanicals; floor 12 is amenities and the 14th is the super’s apartment (13 is unlucky!). The building is just south of Rector, but actually sits on the corner of the diminutive Edgar Street.

The building will have 90 apartments and a penthouse-level club known as Cloud Club 77: a private dining room with catering kitchen, a children’s playroom, and a fitness center. There’s a rooftop terrace and one on the lower floor with a dog run (could that be a first? any other building with a dog run as an amenity??).

  1. We have a dog run available at our building in the UWS. Although a great concept, it ends up being a place where lazy people let their dogs pee and poop…we don’t take our dog down there anymore…it’s worse then the sidewalks!
