Seen & Heard: Row around Manhattan next weekend!

VILLAGE COMMUNITY BOATHOUSE GOES THE FULL LOOP
The Village Community Boathouse, which operates out of the south side of Pier 40, is launching (literally) its annual circumnavigation of Manhattan island on Saturday, August 17, starting at 7a on the dot and ending around 4. A fleet of seven traditional long boats (Whitehall gigs) will row together, with several stops along the way. This is the boathouse’s annual fundraiser and participants normally donate $100+. (Doesn’t that photo, by Gerald Janssen, look like a Hudson River School painting?)

The Village Community Boathouse is a donation and volunteer based non-profit org that offers boatbuilding classes and free rowing to the public on the river every Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening. It also operates satellite programs in Van Cortlandt Park and Prospect Park Lake and runs boat-building programs in city public schools. For the row, each rower is asked to raise or contribute a minimum of $100, and some will raise far more. Spots are limited. For more info and to register please contact media@vcb.nyc or call 212-229-2059.
