In the News: Case dismissed for 9/11 workers at Stuy

9/11 SUITS AGAINST BPCA DISMISSED
From the New York Law Journal’s website: “A Manhattan federal judge has dismissed 138 lawsuits from plaintiffs who had targeted the Battery Park City Authority over exposure to toxic dust at Stuyvesant High School following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, finding they were already covered by a 2010 settlement with the city and its insurer. The cases, which were dismissed on Aug. 30, were the last of about 11,000 suits that had been filed over cleanup work near the World Trade Center. U.S. Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein in June 2010 approved a $712 million settlement agreement between rescue and cleanup workers and the city and its third-party liability insurer, WTC Captive Insurance Co. However, 138 suits remained against BPCA for allegedly failing to maintain safe working conditions at a staging area in the high school, which is located blocks from ground zero.”

UBER FOUNDER SETTLES AT 565 BROOME
The Uber founder Travis Kalanick, who was forced out as CEO a couple years ago, has bought one of the two penthouses at 565 Broome SoHo — the Renzo Piano building just over the border on Varick. The Times says that at $36.5 million, it was the most expensive sale in the city in August. It’s more than 6,000 square feet with 3,400 square feet of open space, and my guess is it has to be one of the apartments with a pool.

AND SOME OTHER SWEET DIGS…
Daniel S. Glaser, the chief executive of Marsh & McLennan, bought at the Woolworth Tower Residences.

SOHO = BROWNSVILLE IN STOREFRONT DATA
What do Soho and Brownsville have in common? Nearly identical vacancy rates of around 13.5 percent along key retail corridors, according to The Post and the Department of City Planning.

AND AT THE LOCAL JIGGLE JOINT…
Page Six reports that talk show queen Wendy Williams had a wild night out at FlashDancers strip club, partying with French Montana and reality superstar Nene Leakes at the — love tabloids — “Tribeca jiggle joint.”

  1. Good ol’ Travis can breathe in all the lovely, clean air towering over the tunnel. Who in their right mind would ever buy in that area…don’t answer that!
But the guy is rich so he’ll leave his penthouse and crawl into the awaiting VIA where he can make new friends.
