Seen & Heard: 9/11 Tribute in Light gets preview this week

ANNUAL TRIBUTE IN LIGHT ON SEPT 5 AND 11
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum’s annual Tribute in Light will be projected from Memorial Plaza on Sept. 5 and Sept. 11. (On Sept. 11, the plaza will be open to the public from 3p to midnight.) The public art installation was first presented six months after 9/11 and then every year thereafter, from dusk to dawn, on the night of Sept. 11. It is being sponsored for the first time by the Carnegie Corporation this year.

The beams are comprised of 88 7,000-watt xenon light bulbs positioned into two 48-foot squares, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers, assembled on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage south of the 9/11 Memorial. They reach up to four miles into the sky and can be seen for a 60-mile radius.
