Seen & Heard: Cynthia Rowley uses Staple Street as runway

CYNTHIA ROWLEY’S MODELS STRUT DOWN STAPLE
New neighbor Cynthia Rowley, whose offices are on the southwest corner of Jay and Staple, set up her very own Fashion Week runway under the Staple Street bridge yesterday, with accompanying balloons and music. The weather was perfect for the sequin-encrusted silk shifts, boy short wetsuits and floral-patterned surfboards that the models toted. No neighborhood could have done it better, if you ask me. (I was a bit jealous of the massive lenses wielded by the paparazzi as I stood there with my Pixel 3, but D. Benken bailed me out with a couple of winners, and A. snagged that great bird’s eye shot.)

Talks are free and open to the public, no tickets required. New York Academy of Art, 111 Franklin.

WHO’S ON FIRST?
Anyone have any explanation for this dugout built on the corner of Worth and Hudson? It’s clearly covering some pipes in the ground, but why? Aren’t half the streets in the neighborhood just a series of open construction pits?

CASA TAQUERIA NOW OPEN
In the Financial District: Casa Taqueria is just the latest in a wave of fast-casual Mexican. They are serving tacos, burritos, quesadillas and more at 40 Gold Street, near Fulton.
