Kids skip school, take to the streets, get loud

I could hear the singing and chanting clear as a bell from the 20th floor of 150 Broadway and it was a fabulous scene at The Battery when I biked down a couple hours later. Pro photog Jimin Kim caught these great photos — while I spotted tons of local kids and parents joining the marchers. (Hopefully the lawn at the Battery Park oval lived to see another day…)

The rally started at Foley Square then continued down Centre to Chambers to Broadway to the park. The city estimated there were 60,000 on the streets. It ended in front of Castle Clinton with performances from Jaden and Willow Smith and, of course, with the words of Sweden’s own Greta Thunberg, who demanded more action from world leaders.

More power to you, kids.

  1. Great cause but was it really necessary for Washington Market and other schools to march what looked like 3 year olds into a protest? Half the kids I was walking down the street were crying the other half were picking their noses and had no idea what was going on.
Parents should question their 30,000 pre-school spend.
