A French diner will come to the Baked space

Ed Koch’s former chef at Gracie will open (with partners) a new French diner at the former Baked space, 279 Church at White. Mitchel London has had a thousand lifetimes in the food industry, including a robust catering business, chef for the restaurant at ABC Carpet and chef de cuisine for Fairway. The “casual French eatery” will be open from 7a to 1a, 2a on weekends, with 22 tables, 64 seats and breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think egg sandwiches, savory tarts, homemade potato chips. There will be a counter in the front and seating in the back.

A fun aside, London got into it with the current first lady (well, there was no first lady in the Koch days!), which you can read all about here in The Post. From 1980 to 1987, he lived in the attic apartment at Gracie, and no one could surpass Koch in his book. “I would not have boiled water for another mayor,” he told The Post.
