Dean & DeLuca posted signs on the door saying it is closed “temporarily” – and odd plan given that its stores have been falling like dominos across the country. Hard to imagine that it will be back, and if indeed that’s the end, it’s the end of an era. –Gothamist

27 ARRESTED IN CLIMATE “DIE-IN”
During a climate-change protest in the Financial District yesterday, 27 were protestors arrested and “Charging Bull” took another hit: red paint meant to look like blood, which was being washed off by folks from the Downtown Alliance almost immediately. The protests are being staged across the world by Extinction Rebellion, a more radical arm of the climate-change protest movement. You can read more about them in the WashPo here. It’s been a rough month for the bull; he was beaten with a banjo and left with a scar on his forehead.

CARS AND PEDESTRIANS, LIVING TOGETHER
Streetsblog has an analysis of the DOT’s first attempt at a “shared street,” where cars and people live together. This one is in Downtown Brooklyn, on Pearl and Willoughby streets. The DOT plans to launch something similar for Bowling Green this fall, and Fidi advocates have been pushing for a more expansive shared street plan as well. So far in BK, says Streetsblog, “The result is more mirage than oasis, especially given the chaos on all sides of the small improvement zone.

TRIBECA ENTERPRISES BUILDING QUEENS STUDIO
DeNiro is building a 650,000 square foot movie studio in Astoria, designed by Bjarke Ingels on the former Steinway piano factory site. –Architectural Digest

  1. For the past couple of months, Newsmax have been recording their show in ground floor space at 350 Broadway, right next to Think Coffee. There’s a sign that says no photos allowed.
