The word on the street: Shop Local

The Tribeca Alliance Partnership, a coalition of neighborhood shopkeepers who have banded together to help promote and preserve the neighborhood’s storefronts, will hold its next meet and greet on Thursday, Oct. 24, 6-8p at 180 The Store (180 Duane). Anyone is invited to stop by, meet local store owners, mix and mingle.

The group was formed in 2016 by A Uno owner Ann Benedetto in response to what felt like a siege on small businesses: rents, fines, taxes and even the ever-present sidewalk shed. The group now has 40 members and an overarching motto: Shop Local. “How you spend your money has a big impact on the neighborhood,” said Demetri Ganiaris, a local realtor and member. “Tribeca is a vibrant place because of our storefronts.”

Denise Williamson, who owns 180 The Store and has lived in the neighborhood for years, will host this month’s meet and greet. Register here. The next event is on the calendar for Nov. 21 at Urban Archeology on Franklin.

  1. This is great. Sorry to have missed it. I helped run a merchants organization in San Francisco. Hope to make the next one!
