In the News: Action on the Duarte Square lot at Canal

OFFICE TOWER COMING TO CANAL AND VARICK
I’ve been asking Trinity for weeks about the lot at Canal and Varick/6th, and of course Crain’s gets the scoop: there’s a contract now for 2 Hudson Square (aka 417 Canal) with Taconic Investment Partners and Nuveen for what can be 300,000 square feet of office space. The lot there is about 32,000 square feet, in an M1-6 district, so you could get a 10-story building there. Fun fact: the eastern border of the lot is actually the vestigial remains of Sullivan Street.

DEAN & DELUCA DONE FOR SURE
Just in case anyone was still holding out hope, here’s the death knell sounding. Broadway Boogie spotted a notice that the contents of the Soho store were being auctioning off.

WHAT’S THAT LOOMING ON THE HORIZON?
In case you were wondering about the new skyscraper on the left bank of the Hudson, it’s 99 Hudson, the 79-story, 781-unit luxury condo in Downtown Jersey City, which at 900 feet, is the tallest building in New Jersey (and the 41st tallest in the US). It was designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by China Overseas America (the U.S. arm of the Hong Kong-based company COHL) and has apartments from $550,000 to over $4,000,000. –Archinect

BAR COMING WITH EAT-IN MOVIE THEATER
Eater reports that Alamo Drafthouse, which is scheduled to open this year, will also have a bar and museum called the Press Room that will feature more than 50,000 letterpress film advertising plates, 50 beers and cocktails made with a French press.

  1. Isn’t New Jersey on the right bank of the Hudson?

    • No, it’s not, Edward.
Google any map of the Hudson River and it’s on the LEFT, unless you’re hanging upside down.
      Are you a bat?
Do you think Trump (Donald J.) hasn’t obstructed justice?
Do you think Lt. Col Vindman is a double agent for Ukraine?
Do you think Jared Kushner is not a vampire?
Are you on a Co-Op board?
I am guessing your answer to all is YES.

  2. Very excited about Alamo drafthouse coming online. One Wall is also getting a Whole Foods. Im glad I live in Tribeca and not down in FiDi but I am happy to see a more residential feel to that area. I think it creates a better home for all.

Does anyone know what is going on at the City Hall space on Duane? Looks like lights are on and no body is home?
