Seen & Heard: Artists Space to open in December

ARTISTS SPACE IS BACK
In the continuing renaissance of Cortlandt Alley — and the expansion of the Tribeca Gallery District — the OG Artists Space will open its new space at 11 Cortlandt Alley on Dec. 6. More TK on the non-profit, which was founded in Soho in 1972 and over the years has introduced the world to countless emerging artists such as Jenny Holzer, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger and Laurie Anderson (who are clearly no longer emerging).

CHILLHOUSE TO OPEN ON NOV. 7
Chillhouse, which opened its first nail salon, massage boutique and café on the Lower East Side – has a second outpost poised to open at 75 Varick, just north of Canal (in the former bike store space). The space will have a full-service café, eight manicure tables and five pedicure chairs and six treatment rooms. And there’s wine and beer! More TK.

SUPPORTING WOMEN IN BUSINESS
Warren Street resident Kristen Thiede hosted a breakfast for the non-profit SheEO — an organization that gives seed money to women entrepreneurs. Donors, or activators, give a yearly sum of $1100, then the money is pooled together and loaned out at zero percent interest to five women-led ventures selected by the activators each year. All the business’s must be revenue-generating with export potential and also must be “creating a better world through their business model or their product and service.” Other local activators in attendance: Shannon Edwards, Jaimie Daniels, Vicki Sunders, Laura Lee and Manisha Chawhan.

WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THIS STORY…
If anyone lives at 41-42 Warren, comment and fill us in! It’s a lovely tribute.

  1. The plaque on Warren St is to memorialize Ivan, who was for many years a Super for lots of the small buildings on Warren Street – he passed away suddenly last year. We have since moved away from that block, but it’s really nice to see him remembered this way.
