Dirty Bird To Go on Chambers is closed

P. sent this succinct note: “Ordered on Halloween. Went to order again and Seamless said “closed.” DB website has no update. Called and no answer. Seems it is closed. Bummer.”

The word from DB themselves, and I am hoping this is not the final final: “closed for the moment.”

The 20-seat fried chicken joint at 155 Chambers opened in 2012 as the second outpost for owner Joseph Ciriello, who opened Dirty Bird To-Go Chelsea in 2006. If this is it for Tribeca, I’ll give the final word to P.: “Completely shocked and gutted.”

Perhaps their restaurant inspections history are relevant or it could be some other reason.

    • This place gave my husband and I salmonella so I can’t say I’m surprised to see the violations in that inspection

    • Here they are:
Violations recorded in the following area (s) and a Notice of Violation issued at the reinspection conducted on 09/25/2019.
Numbers 1, 2 and 3 are “critical” violations.
      Violation points: 28
      Sanitary Violations
      1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
      2) Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations.
      3) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
      4) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.

  2. More like diarrhea bird in my experience…

  3. This is devastating. Their rotisserie chicken was killer..not to mention the mac and cheese.

  4. I liked Dirty Bird better when it was Taco Bell.

  5. 14th Street appears to be closed as well.

  6. 14th Street shuttered with no explanation or posted notices. Dirty indeed!

  7. They fell off after the second year of business. Buttermilk fried chicken stopped tasting like it had been marinated in buttermilk beforehand.

  8. Where else in the neighborhood do folks go for take-out rotisserie chicken?

  9. ummm we are losing our minds!!!! We were about to order and….absolute disaster

  10. where do you guys order good fried chicken from? I don’t care if it’s healthy, as long as it tastes good. I used to love the cornerstone wings and dirty bird fried chicken. now where do I go!!?!?

  11. Loved the food I was heartbroken to see the 14th Street store closed. I am all for cleanliness. Hope they get their crap together.

  12. I flew to new york specifically to eat in this revered establishment. This is beyond devastating….dark times indeed. Is there anything we can do?
Shall we start a gofundme or kickstarter so i can get my tender kicks again?

  13. Truth in Branding. Great business concept but unfortunate execution and follow thru.

4 piece of over-fried, dry chicken, with a salad and a side from Gee Whiz will set you back $20.

Any other Fried Chicken places to recommend?

  14. Seems like fried chicken places don’t do well in this area. There used to be two Popeyes nearby and a KFC near Wall St.
